Jerusalem Shore Excursion
Jerusalem is the most popular destination in Israel. You will find a fascinating city that will leave you with a lifetime of memories. You must absolutely visit Jerusalem at least once in your life, and we can show you this city better than anyone else - this is because we love this city and we live in it...
There are 3 main options for visiting Jerusalem on a shore excursion:
(1) Jerusalem & Bethlehem (2) Jerusalem & Museums (Yad Vashem / Israel Museum) (3) Jerusalem & the Dead Sea
Our shore excursions to Jerusalem are designed so that we cover all the main sights of the city in one day of travel (all the important religious sites, the old city with its 4-quarters, the new city with the Knesset, panoramic view-points, and more!). Of course our tours are personal and flexible and we can focus our time on your specific desires - you will spend as much time as YOU want in the places you want to see.
If you are a spiritual visitor then our Jerusalem and Bethlehem trip will leave you with memories of a lifetime! Your guide will help you step back in time and you will visit the Church of the Nativity, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Garden of Gethsemane, and much more.
If you wish to see and experience as much as possible on your visit to Israel we recommend the Jerusalem and Dead Sea tour. We have been told by experienced cruisers that this trip is arguably the most memorable shore excursion in the world! This is a very full day of sights and experiences so prepare to see it all and bring your bathing suit and camera!
We have included below a very short description of just some of the sites that are available on a tour to Jerusalem. If this is your first time to Jerusalem, there are some places which you simply must visit, and we will make sure to take you there. If you have been to Jerusalem before, we can show you the hidden gems of this remarkable place.
No Holy Land tour is complete without the spectacular views of Jerusalem from Mount Scopus. The holy sites of the Old City are clearly visible, and there are wonderful views out to the Judean desert to the east.
Some of the holiest sites to the three monotheistic religions are found within the confines of the Old City Walls. A walking tour along the Old City walls begins at Jaffa Gate, going clockwise towards Lion’s Gate; or counter clockwise, ending at Dung Gate.
There are so many wonderful places to visit in the Old City that you can spend a full day just walking within the city walls. The world famous attractions are of course the Via Dolorosa, the Holy Sepulcher, David's Citadel, the Arab Market and the renovated Jewish quarters. There is also the underground Herodian mansions where you can walk through the old city by the Zion Gate to see David's tomb and the room of the Last Supper. But the most recognized sites of the Old City are probably the Western Wall (wailing wall) and the (golden) Dome of the Rock. The Wailing wall is the last remnant of the ancient Jewish Temple that stood here over 2000 years ago and the holiest place for Jews. Only a portion of the Western Wall is visible above ground: the entire length can be explored via underground tunnels.
The most popular places to see in Jerusalem on a one day shore excursion are:
In the afternoon you have an option to visit the new city, Yad Vashem Memorial, the Israel Museum with the Dead Sea Scrolls, or Bethlehem. You also have an option to visit the lowest place on earth and experience the unique feeling of 'floating' in the curative waters of the Dead Sea.
In the New City you can explore the charming neighborhood of Yemin Moshe and the Montefiore Windmill - a famous Jerusalem landmark. The beautiful YMCA and famous King David Hotel are nearby. The pedestrian Ben Yehuda Street is lined with cafes, shops and restaurants. The nearby Nahalat Shiva Street is a charming focal point for Jerusalem’s nightlife.
On the western outskirts of Jerusalem is the charming village of Ein Kerem, with narrow cobblestone streets, cafes, and art studios. Nearby is the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center with its famous Chagall Windows. These sublime works of art represent the twelve tribes of Israel and were given as a gift to Israel from the French Master Mark Chagall.
Just north of Ein Kerem is Yad Vashem Museum, a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, with impressive architecture, scenic views, and memorial halls. Another museum which is worth your time is the Shrine of the Book, a twenty minute drive from the city center, which exhibits the famous Dead Sea Scrolls - which represent the earliest version of the bible.
